Cathy & Keith Seckel came to our encounter at CRC and talked to us about Lectio Divina which is a slow, contemplative praying of the Scriptures. It is a three part series of reading one scripture and letting God talk to you through it. The first reading is for the purpose of hearing a word or passage that touches your heart, answering the question of "what jumped out at me?" The second reading is for the purpose of "hearing" or "seeing" Christ in the text, answering the question " Where is Christ in this text?" The third and final reading is for the purpose of experiencing Christ "calling us forth into doing or being, answering the question "What is Christ calling me to, or asking of me?"
One of the scriptures we went over is:
2 Corinthians 3:16-18 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, and being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
One of the pictures that Keith got is that the Sun is the light and the Moon reflects that light just as Moses reflected the light of God after being on the mountain with Him. When the world gets between the Sun and Moon the Moon can not reflect the light that the Sun puts off, like us when the things of the world gets between God and us we become dim and can not reflect the light of God the way in which God intended.
This is just one example of the things God revealed to us going through the scriptures this way. The community in our home group is wonderful and just learning of ways in which to work together to understand God's word and love for us is awesome.
